SAFER GAMBLING

A casino is seen by many as a fun night out with friends, a sociable evening to catch up and playing games with an allocated budget. However, for a few, gambling can become a problem.

At the Clermont Club we want all members and visitors to enjoy their visit and to have a responsible and enjoyable experience within their set limits.

We have a range of tools to help you control your gambling such as machine limits and limiting visits to the casino*

Please speak to a manager in the club who will be able to discuss all the options with you.

Affordability is crucial

Gambling should be enjoyable and one crucial aspect of making sure it stays that way is by ensuring that you can afford to gamble. Careful consideration of your disposable and discretionary income, after you’ve paid for your entertainment, food, travel and all other living costs, will enable you to assess from the remaining funds how much you can afford to spend on gambling.

Ask yourself these questions

Be honest with yourself, if you think that your gambling may be getting out of control ask the following questions:

  1. Have you put at risk important or significant relationships, educational studies, a job or your career because of gambling?

  2. Do you chase losses by continuing, or quickly returning, to gamble when on a losing streak?

  3. When you win, do you have a strong desire to return and win more?

  4. Do you ever gamble until you have completely run out of money?

  5. Have you lied, stolen or borrowed to get money for gambling?

  6. Are you reluctant to spend gambling money on anything else?

  7. Do you ever gamble for longer than you had planned?

  8. Do you ever gamble to escape worries, trouble, disappointment or frustration?

  9. Do you feel depressed or suicidal because of your gambling?

  10. Are you in debt because of gambling?

  11. Have you ever sold your own or your family’s possessions to get money to gamble or to pay gambling debts?

The more you answer yes, the greater the likelihood of a serious gambling problem.

How to help yourself

Talk about it with family, friends or a member of the management team at Clermont Club.

Clermont Club has systems in place to prevent members playing privileges and accessing the casino promotions. These steps include:

  • Voluntary self-exclusion via the Self-Enrolment National Self Exclusion (SENSE) Scheme

  • Voluntary casino self-exclusion

  • Limiting sums which can be withdrawn from the cash desk facilities

  • Limiting the time and amount of funds you can spend within the casino

  • Providing you with a list of charities and helplines who are able to help during this sensitive time (listed on the next page).

If you have any concerns about your gambling or would like to hear more about any of the above, please speak to one of these organisations:
